420 participants for 70 times Khatam Al-Quran

A TOTAL of 420 participants yesterday partook in the 70 times Khatam Al-Quran at the Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Wakeel Mosque in Mukim Kiudang, Tutong to celebrate the 70th birthday of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

During the ceremony, the Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong was present as the guest of honour.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the ceremony is aimed to seek blessing from Allah SWT for the monarch, as well as a symbol of gratitude by the people to Allah SWT for blessing the country with the leadership of His Majesty. The ministry added that it is also to support the desire of His Majesty to develop Brunei into a Zikir Nation and as a manifestation towards appreciation of the Malay Muslim Monarchy (MIB) concept as it is a system that creates unity, prosperity and harmony. The religious ceremony began with a mass Asar prayer, followed by a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the minister.

The ceremony then proceeded with the minister observing the participants read Al-Quran. The participants comprised of Tutong Mukim and Village Consultative Council, Mosque Takmir Committee and students. Also present were the MoHA permanent secretary, along with the deputy permanent secretaries and the acting district officer.
