Brunei signs MoU with Russia

A MEMORANDUM of understanding between Brunei and Russia was signed on May 20 during a meeting between Culture Ministers from ASEAN member states and Russia at the Swissôtel Resort Sochi Kamelia, Russia.

The signing of the memorandum between Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Mohd Yusof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Vladimir Medinsky, Minister of Culture of Russia is expected to intensify the process of learning, exchange of information and sharing of experience in culture and arts between the two countries.

The meeting primarily discussed initiatives to strengthen and promote cooperation in the field of culture and humanity in particular through ongoing cooperation including cooperation in the field of preservation, conservation and improvement of cultural heritage sites.

In the meeting’s Joint Statement, the ministers expressed strong support towards implementing joint projects of culture and arts for the study of culture, way of life and customs of the ASEAN countries and Russia to determine priority areas according to the capabilities and policies of their respective countries.

Running in tandem with the meeting, a cultural festival was held with the aims to promote ASEAN Cultural Tourism as well as the art and culture of ASEAN. The festival showcased cultural art, dance and traditional handicraft of the ASEAN countries and Russia to promote the 20th ASEAN-Russia Year of Culture in conjunction with the 20th ASEAN- Russia Commemorative Summit.

YB Pehin Dato Hj Awg Halbi said during the meeting that the implementations of the second round of programmes under the Understanding on Cultural Cooperation between ASEAN and Russia are expected to benefit more youths which represents the productive group in society.
