UTB opens applications for graduate programmes

UNIVERSITI Teknologi Brunei (UTB) is inviting students to apply for the graduate programmes for the August 2016 period.
The graduate programmes include various modes and levels of graduate studies, such as Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Masters by Research and Taught Masters.
According to UTB the PhD and Masters by Research programmes can be completed either in full-time or part-time mode, whereas the one-year Taught Masters programmes are delivered full-time only.
The duration of the PhD programme is three years for full-time, or six years for part-time.
Meanwhile, for Masters by Research, the duration is two years for full-time, or four years for part-time.
Taught Masters programmes offered in UTB are Masters of Science in Computing and Information Systems; Electrical Power System Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Management and Technology and Water Resources and Environmental Engineering.
UTB has a relatively small but vibrant community of graduate students comprising of 10 PhD, 24 Masters by Research and 36 Taught Masters students.
Deputy Dean of Graduate Studies and Research Office Professor Dr Zuruzi Abu Samah said a masters or doctoral degree will equip students with advanced knowledge and specialised technologies needed to compete in a dynamic and sustainable economy.
He said: “Graduate education is a worthwhile investment. It produces manpower equipped with skills such as communications, innovativeness, leadership and project management. These are key traits needed to achieve Vision 2035,’’ he said.
“As Brunei diversifies its economy, it needs highly trained manpower to compete for key investments. A manpower base which is highly trained in science, technology, engineering and mathematics along with strong business and entrepreneurial skills are needed. Graduate studies at UTB allow students to develop and hone these skills,’’ he added.
The closing date for applications is May 31.
