Science College students to compete in maths contest

FOUR Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College students left the sultanate yesterday to compete in the Fifth Singapore International Mathematics Challenge (SIMC) 2016.

The challenge will be held from May 23 to May 27 at the National University of Singapore High School of Mathematics and Science.

The four students competing in the challenge are Md Amir Hj Ahmad, Goh Jing Rui, Md Haziq Dzulfadhly Mubarak Pg Hj Md Amir and Yee Ren Ching.

Education Officer Noraizamley Hj Damit who will be attending the challenge as the chaperone said the students will be competing against a total of 60 schools from 30 countries and was confident that they will do well.

“These are the students who really performed in their academic performance. They take further mathematics and have the capability to do presentation and mathematical skills,” he added.

“We have been practicing for two months. It has been challenging but we will try our best to win the challenge. We’re nervous but I’m confident that we can beat at least some schools,” said Yee Ren Ching, one of the participants.

Team Captain Goh Jing Rui said good presentation skills will be crucial in ensuring the team perform, adding Maktab Sains is eyeing to at least bring home the third prize.
