Nearly 90k visit Kg Ayer gallery

90,000 visitors have visited the Kg Ayer Tourism Gallery since its opening in 2009.

According to statistics from the Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) out of the total number of visitors so far close to 57000 have been foreigners.

The gallery recorded the highest number of visitors in 2013 with 15,538 visitors in total.

Since then, the gallery has seen a small but steady decline in the number of visitors falling to 15,298 in 2014 and 15,171 in 2015.

Also according to the statistics given, so far the gallery has received 4,103 visitors this year, with March seeing the highest number with 1113.

Peak season for visitors is normally towards the end of the year around November.

The gallery also recorded its highest number of visitors in a month in December 2012 with 2268 visitors.

The $3 million gallery was inaugurated by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office in August 2009.

This unique gallery located at the heart of the water village, features five mini galleries showcasing information and pictures on the history, traditions, society, arts as well as handicrafts and relics from the origins of the water village dating up to the 10th till the 20th century.

An observation tower also gives visitors a panoramic view of the water village and the capital’s skyline.

The gallery opens from 9am to 5pm from Monday to Sunday with the exception of Friday, which opens from 9am to 11.30pm and 2.30pm to 5pm and last admission is 30 minutes before closing time.

It is closed on all public holidays.
