The event began with mass Maghrib prayers and continued with three recitations of Surah Yasin led by the imam of the mosque, Pehin Khatib Hj Mustapha Hj Murat.

This was followed by a special prayer to commemorate Nisfu Sya’aban.

The prayer was to seek blessings for a long life in service to Allah SWT and to be protected from calamities and to ask for the blessings of a good livelihood which is halal and beneficial.

As is the norm, Muslims around the world including in Brunei celebrate Nisfu Sya’aban every 15th of the Islamic month of Sya’aban.

Sya’aban is the eighth month in the Islamic Calendar, and to enliven the night, Muslims are encouraged to fill it with remembrance of Allah SWT or Zikir as well as by performing good deeds and acts of worship.
