THE Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) commemorated Isra’ Mikraj yesterday by hosting a special lecture that highlighted the importance of working hard and its benefits in Islam.

Entitled ‘Piety is the Foundation of the Country’s Economy’, it was delivered by Ustaz Dr Andas Hj Ismuhadi Hj Abdullah from the Islamic Da’wah Centre.

Ustaz Dr Andas Hj Ismuhadi said people have a tendency to chase wealth and blame others should they be denied it. But such a way of thinking is incorrect, he said, noting that the element of hard work shouldn’t be dismissed.

Some people even go to the extent of blaming Allah SWT should they fail to obtain what they want, he said, adding that such thoughts shouldn’t be entertained.

“While we may receive different forms of wealth and blessings, we tend to forget that hard work plays an important role in getting us where we are headed and where we are today,” he said.

These blessings are of higher importance, he said, noting that Brunei has been blessed in such a way.

“We may seem to be a small country compared to other countries that are full of high-rise buildings with fast developments. But we must think of the blessings that have been given to us such as the peace and harmony we have in everyday life,” said Ustaz Dr Andas Hj Ismuhadi.

Around 200 officers and staff from the ministry and its departments attended the talk, which was organised by the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood along with the ministry’s Administration and Finance Section.

Present as the guest of honour was Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hj Apong.

Also present was the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Hj Abdul Manaf Hj Metussin, and its deputy permanent secretary, Wardi Hj Mohd Ali.
