Boat operator pleads not guilty to bribery

A LOCAL boat service operator claimed trial yesterday over the charge of bribing a Ministry of Education officer as a reward to approve the continuation of his boat services with the ministry.

Hj Duraman Talip pleaded not guilty yesterday to the charge of giving a bribe of $250 on March 26, 2013 to an education officer at the Vehicles and Transportation Section, Department of Administration Services, Ministry of Education.

An investigation conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) stated the incident occurred at the Vehicles and Transportation Section, Department of Administration, Ministry of Education office in Pusar Ulak.

Presiding Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati Hj Abd Hamid yesterday scheduled for a further mention of the case on June 8 to set the trial date for the case. Hj Duraman, who is currently unrepresented, was released on a bail of $10,000 or the same amount in two local sureties on condition that he will not contact, directly or indirectly, any of the prosecution witnesses and that he does not commit any other similar offences.
