UBD Toastmaster to compete at Jakarta contest

A UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Toastmaster left the Sultanate on May 19 for Jakarta to compete in the District 87 International Speech Contest 2015/2016.

Toastmaster Pranika Lama will be competing against eight other contestants from Sarawak and Indonesia in the international speech category which will be held at the Santika Premiere Hotel Hayam Wuruk on May 22.

Contestants will present a five to seven minute speech on any subject chosen by the contestants.

The winner of the contest will then move on to compete against other district champions from around the world for the title of World Champion of Public Speaking. The World Championship will be held from August 17 to August 20 at Mariott Marquis Hotel in Washington DC.

In the previous round held in Sandakan, Sabah, Pranika gave an inspirational speech titled “Open your eyes” and took first place among six other contestants from Sabah and Labuan.

The contest will held alongside a conference and educational session that will be presented by several international professional speakers on topics to improve communication and leadership skills.

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organisation that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through practical hands-on experiences.
