THE Ministry of Communications celebrated the service and contributions of its retired officers and staff yesterday at the Dewan Amar Pahlawan Hall in its headquarters.

Forty-three retirees were honoured during the thanksgiving and appreciation ceremony.

The retirees included those from the Postal Services Department, the Marine Department, the Land Transport Department, the Ports Department and the Department of Civil Aviation.

In his welcoming remarks, Tasad Hj Tamam, chairman of the event and also the ministry’s acting director of administration and services, said the event was a way to show appreciation to the retirees for all their hard work and efforts throughout the course of their service.

He said he hoped the retirees would accept the celebration put together for them as it was the least they could do in light of the time, energy, thoughts and moral support the retirees had invested.

Those attending the ceremony also listened to a talk by Hj Mohammad Khairul Nazif Hj Awg Damit, an assistant lecturer from Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), on retirement in the Islamic context.

He advised the retirees to use their retirement time wisely, especially since it is an opportunity for them to not only improve themselves but also their acts of worship such as prayers, supplications and charity work.

Present to hand over certificates of appreciation and souvenirs to the retired officers and staff was Minister of Communications Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat.

Also present was the ministry’s permanent secretary, Hj Azhar Hj Ahmad.
