Khatam for Sultan at Masjid Zainab, Lumut

CLOSE to three hundred residents from Belait joined in the 70 times Khatam Al-Quran ceremony yesterday at the Zainab mosque in Lumut.

140 males and the same amount of females jointed in the ceremony held to commemorate the 70th birthday of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

Minister of Home Affairs Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong attended as guest of honour.

The ceremony aims to uphold appreciation towards the sultanate’s Malay Muslim Monarchy (MIB) as a philosophy that is the backbone of the nation's unity, prosperity, harmony, peace and order. It is also aimed at instilling the culture of reciting Al-Quran as a daily practice and honouring His Majesty’s desire into making Brunei a Zikir Nation.

The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a special prayer led by the mosque’s Imam.

Also present were permanent secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Hj Md Abdoh Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Salam and Belait district representatives to the Legislative Council Yang Berhormat Hj Mohd Shafiee Ahmad and Yang Berhormat Hj Mohd Yusof Dulamin.
