UNISSA, University of Sharjah ink MoU

UNIVERSITI Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA) and University of Sharjah (UoS) of United Arab Emirates recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for collaborative work on Islamic studies and student-staff exchange programmes.
Signing the MoU on behalf of UNISSA was Dr Hj Noararfan Hj Zainal, the rector of UNISSA, while UoS was represented by UoS’ Chancellor Professor Hamid M Al-Naimiy.
Held at UoS’ campus on May 15th, the two universities agreed to collaborate academically and to work on student and staff mobility programmes, as well as to conduct research in Islamic studies and other areas.
According to a press statement from UNISSA, the Bruneian delegates proceeded to tour the campus and held discussions with the Faculty of Syariah and Law after the signing of the MoU.
Present to welcome the Bruneian delegates were Dean of the Faculty of Syariah and Law Professor Awad Al-Khalaf and Director of Studies and Research Centre Sharjah Islamic Finance Dr Ibrahim Ali Al-Mansoori.
During the discussions, the two education institutions agreed to take in students who will enroll under UNISSA’s Study Abroad Programme.
Both institutions also agreed to provide training to UNISSA’s academic staff, as well as government officials who are interested.
Sharjah University has 14 faculties and offers 80 academic programmes at the bachelors, masters, doctoral and diplomas levels.
Currently, there are about 14,000 students studying at UoS with over 700 academic staff.
Also present to witness the MoU signing was Brunei Darussalam ambassador to United Arab Emirates Hj Mohd Yusra Hj Mohd Salleh, Deputy Rector of UNISSA Dr Hj Mohammed Hussain Pehin Penyurat Haji Ahmad, Director of the Syafi’e Research Centre at UNISSA Dr Azme Hj Matali and officials from the Brunei Embassy at the United Arab Emirates.
