THE Belait Youth Association (PEMBELA) is all set for its three-day workshop on journalism, slated to commence on Friday at the KBSentral Shopping Centre.

According to a press statement issued yesterday, 34 participants have registered for the workshop.

PEMBELA said that the workshop hopes to provide its participants with a better understanding on journalism while also giving the participants a chance to learn to produce articles that can grab the attention of the community.

“PEMBELA has agreed that presentation of information through journalism is an effective medium of communication in fostering an informative society... besides promoting the reading culture among the people of Brunei,” the association said in the statement.

A number of experts, including representatives from local media agencies, will give talks on various topics on journalism, including its position in the Bruneian law, as a career, in the social media and in various forms of writing.

Participants will also be given a practical assignment where they will write an article based on their exploration of the shops, services, products and facilities at the KBSentral Shopping Centre.

The workshop is held with collaboration between PEMBELA, KBSentral Shopping Centre and the Information Department under the Prime Minister’s Office, with support from the Language and Literature Bureau and local media agencies.

Though the registration was closed yesterday, PEMBELA said that those who want to join would be considered, should they submit their registrations on the actual day of the event.
