Belait planning to hold more cleaning campaigns
MORE district-wide cleaning campaigns are in the pipeline for Belait, with the Belait District Office seeking more public involvement after they initiated the first one on May 5.
Belait District Officer Hj Haris Othman said increased participation from community stakeholders including schools, businesses, government organisations and home owners are being sought to spruce up the district’s image.
“We’re looking at getting more of the public involved. It’s our intention to organise the concurrent cleaning campaigns throughout the year and not just as a one-off annual event,” said Hj Haris.
He said the district office would send letters to organisations and businesses about future campaigns and raise public awareness about the events through the media.
Although cleaning campaigns in specific areas of Belait are held by different organisations throughout the year, holding one concurrently has the added advantage of increasing public awareness on a wider scale.
“If a lot of people and organisations get involved on the same day, then others passing by will take notice wherever they go in the district. It will generate a positive attitude toward cleanliness and help people realise its importance,” he added.
The first district-wide campaign saw a wide range of organisations take part, including Brunei Methanol Company, the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board, the Youth and Sports Department and village and Mukim Consultative Councils.
