A WOMAN attempted to jump off the first floor of the laboratory section at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital yesterday afternoon.

In a statement, the ministry said that the incident took place around 2pm yesterday when hospital staff found the woman sitting on the ledge outside a window while talking and screaming.

Emergency services were immediately called and officers from the Royal Brunei Police Force and the Fire and Rescue department arrived shortly after to handle the situation.

The woman was eventually removed to safety by Fire and Rescue department officers where a clinical psychiatrist, doctors, nurses and paramedics were waiting to treat the woman and calm her.

The woman was later brought to the mental health unit for further treatment.

The ministry also urged the public to avoid spreading the incident through social media platforms such as Facebook or WhatsApp to protect and respect the woman’s privacy.

When contacted by The Brunei Times, an official from the Royal Brunei Police Force confirmed that a call was received by the 993 emergency hotline regarding the incident at block 8 of the RIPAS Hospital.

The woman was identified as a 23 year-old permanent resident and was physically unharmed during the incident.
