THE Minister of Religious Affairs (MoRA) said efforts should be made by relevant parties to make improvements in tarannum (recital with melody) to improve and enhance the recitation of Quran.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awg Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awg Othman said this during a ceremony to promote excellence in Quran reading for Brunei’s Qari and Qariah yesterday.

“It is important for Quran readers to strive to progress with dedication, discipline, sincerity and tawaddu’ (humility),” he said.

YB Pehin Dato Hj Awg Badaruddin said that the ministry has organised several programmes to promote this.

The programmes include the Skim Tilawah Al-Quran Remaja (Al-Quran Reading Scheme for the Youth).

During yesterday’s ceremony, the minister presented Qari Ak Muhammad Adibul Amin Pg Hj Marjuki and Qariah Siti Huzaimah Yadey Hj Rosli with monetary rewards of $7,000 and $4,000 respectively.

Ak Muhammad Adibul Amin placed second while Siti Huzaimah Yadey placed third at the 58th International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The scheme is organised to provide incentives to the Qari and Qariah and other interested participants to continue to enhance and improve their skills in reading the Quran.
