FINANCIAL AID and daily necessities were donated to 71 recipients comprising orphans and the poor and destitute from around Kg Delima yesterday at the Mohammad Bolkiah mosque in Kg Serusop.

The donations were contributed by members of the public as well as the Mohammad Bolkiah Mosque Takmir Committee and the mosque Muslimah group.

Guest of honour and on hand to give away the donations was former education minister Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Wijaya Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awang Abdul Aziz Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Seri Paduka Hj Awang Umar.

In his speech, the chairman of the organising committee, Imam Hj Muslim Hj Abdul Razak, said that “It is hoped that the small contribution will be able to help lessen the burden of the recipients especially in fulfilling their daily needs.”

He said that, charity whether in the form of money or otherwise, is an honourable practice that gives benefit to the giver as well as the recipient.

“The giver will be guaranteed reward from Allah SWT, whereas the receivers will be able to use the donations to fulfil their daily needs,” Imam Hj Muslim said.

He added that in reality, the wealth that we give to charity will not decrease as Allah SWT will replace and multiply the givers’ wealth.

He quoted Surah Al-Baqarah verse 261 which says that “the parable of a person who gives away their wealth in the way of Allah SWT is like a grain of corn which grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains.”

The imam also quoted a hadith narrated by Adi bin Hatim in Sahih Al-Bukhari, where the Prophet (peace be upon him) said that charity can save Muslims from hell-fire even if half a date-fruit is given in charity.

A number of recipients who were interviewed yesterday, said they were thankful for the donations.
