A LOCAL man was imposed a $2,000 fine yesterday for possession of untaxed cigarettes, liquor and chicken parts.

The defendant Eddy Dawat was brought in for questioning on February 25 this year after customs officers in Temburong inspected a car driven by the 27-year-old and found 71 cans of beer, three cartons of cigarettes and a packet of two-kilogramme chicken bishop nose.

Eddy subsequently admitted that the contraband belonged to him as he had bought it from Limbang, Sarawak for $104 in total. He further admitted that the liquor, cigarettes and the chicken parts were for his personal consumption.

The court document stated that the excise duty that the defendant had evaded for not declaring the goods was $211.
