THE Brunei Meteorological Department has issued a public weather advisory on the possibility of heavy and thundershowers over the next five days.

In a press statement the department said at active weather conditions are likely to affect the country between Monday night until Friday morning.

According to the advisory, there will be “showers, which are thundery and heavy at times, are expected to occasionally occur especially during the night until early morning”.

“(There is) risk of flash floods in continuous heavy downpour, particularly over the low-lying and flood prone areas,” it said.

Meanwhile, wind speed during the next five days is expected to reach up to 45 kilometres an hour (km/h) especially during bouts of heavy showers.

When contacted by The Brunei Times, anofficial from the department, Md Affindi Hj Sabli, said that the heavy rain and thunder showers are due to the hot weather which occurred in the previous days.

“The normal wind speed is around 10 to 30 km/h. And the predicted wind speed for the next five days is considered average as excessive speed is around 60 to 80km/h and above,” said the official.

He also advised the road users to be more cautious as the road could be slippery during these rainy days.

The weather advisory is effective as of yesterday afternoon until 10.00am on Friday, May 13.
