Bushfire breaks out along Muara-Tutong Highway

A BUSHFIRE broke out yesterday afternoon, destroying five hectares of land along the Muara-Tutong Highway, opposite the road leading up to the junction to Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, a distress call was received at 1.02pm.

Eleven firefighters, two firetrucks from the Rimba Fire station and one from Berakas fire station, were dispatched to the scene, headed by Assistant Station Officer Abdul Majeed Hj Mohammad.

The Fire and Rescue Department said they were able to extinguish the fire by 5.42pm. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Fire and Rescue department advised the public to refrain from any activity that could spark bushfires that can rapidly spiral out of control during the “hot and dry” season.
