Bruneians score wins in Int’l Tilawah Al-Quran competition

THE pair of Ak Mohd Adibul Amin Pg Hj Marjuki and Siti Huzzaimah Yadey Hj Rosli who represented the sultanate at the 58th International Tilawah Al-Quran Competition in Kuala Lumpur from May 2-9, emerged as runner up and second runner up in their respective male (Qari) and female (Qariah) Quran readers categories.

During the competition, the host country Malaysia emerged as champions in both categories with a score of 94.79 per cent and 90.96 per cent respectively. Meanwhile, the Bruneian representatives each scored 90.15 per cent and 85.88 per cent respectively in the final round of the competition which saw the participation of 22 male and 16 female contestants.

Ak Mohd Adibul Amin and Siti Huzzaimah each received cash prizes of RM 30,000 ($10,200) and RM 20,000 ($6,800) respectively as well as a souvenir and certificate of participation. Guest of Honour during the closing ceremony which was held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur, was Major General (B) Dato Seri Jamil Khir Hj Baharom, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office of Malaysia. The duo are expected to touch down in Brunei on May 8 at 2.30pm.
