THE minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister’s Office said discussions with the Ministry of Education to incorporate entrepreneurship in the education system will soon be underway.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Mohammad Yasmin Hj Umar, who is also chairman of Darussalam Enterprise (DARe), said this in response to a suggestion put forward by a participant during a dialogue held between the Malay Chamber of Commerce and DARe officials on Wednesday evening.

The participant suggested for entrepreneurship to be made a subject.

The minister said they will soon be discussing with the education ministry to start educating students on entrepreneurship beginning at the primary school level.

“We must have entrepreneurship in the education system and even insert it as a subject. Imagine how entrepreneurship can contribute to the country’s income in the future if there happens to be no income from oil and gas,” said YB Pehin Dato Hj Yasmin to the audience.

Speaking to The Brunei Times on the sidelines of the dialogue, the minister said a holistic approach needs to be taken together with the education ministry.

“I am also a member of the National Education Policy committee and I will bring the matter of incorporating entrepreneurship into the education system,” he added.
