THREE men were each sentenced to multiple years in prison after pleading guilty to several housebreaking and theft offences.

During the proceedings yesterday, Intermediate Court Judge Pg Hjh Hanani Pg Hj Metussain sentenced Pg Roniferra Pg Ramli, 38, to 92 months in prison and six strokes of the cane. Co-accused Mohd Ali Akbar Jufri, 25, was sentenced to 104 months and four strokes of the cane and Ak Harris Fadillah Pg Ahmad Fadillah, 26, was sentenced to 68 months in prison and four strokes of the cane.

Between August 2015 and March this year, the trio was involved in a series of thefts and house break-ins around Brunei-Muara district which included a break-in at the Pakistani High Commissioner’s residence.

The defendants, who had targeted people’s homes, restaurants and cafes, mostly stole electronic devices, debit cards and cash. The stolen items were later sold off and the proceeds were divided amongst themselves.

The court document said most of the offences were committed interchangeably between the trio, while on three occasions, they were committed by all three men.

Mohd Ali admitted he was involved in four counts of theft he had committed by himself.
