UTB to organise int’l conference on engineering and technology
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
UNIVERSITI Teknologi Brunei (UTB) is organising the sixth Brunei International Conference on Engineering and Technology (BICET) this November.
BICET is a biennial event for academicians, researchers and engineers from industry, research laboratories and universities to exchange information and engage with each other.
The conference will be held from November 14 to 16 at the university.
According to UTB’s website, BICET 2016 will bring together state-of-the-art developments on all major topics of interest in engineering sciences and technology.
This year’s conference aims to be a leading forum for discourse on ‘Recent Advances in Engineering Sciences and Technology’.
The website said the event will bring stakeholders together for cross fertilisation of ideas and act as a catalyst for collaborations between industry, academia and policy makers at both the national and international levels.
The conference committee is inviting paper submissions reporting significant advances from contemporary and emerging topics in engineering sciences and technology.
Papers demonstrating new insights and significant advancements, especially those spanning disciplines, are also sought.
The abstract submission deadline is June 15.
UTB Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Hjh Zohrah Hj Sulaiman said she welcomes engineers, scientists and educators to participate in the conference.
“I hope the conference will bring an exciting experience, provide a good opportunity to learn from each other, and a venue for new networking,” she told The Brunei Times yesterday.
The vice chancellor added she hoped the conference will also be an inspiration for participants to continue their current or carry out new research.
Professor Dr Hjh Zohrah said this year’s conference will also be different from previous years as it will be held in conjunction with the ASEAN University Network/ Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network’s (AUN/SEED-Net) ninth ASEAN Civil Engineering conference.
The BICET 2016 conference’s technical co-sponsor is the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Brunei Darussalam, while its research partner is the Oxford Business Group (OBG).
The website said BICET 2016 celebrates excellent researchers at the start of their careers and promising students.
“In this spirit, BICET 2016 introduces the Young Investigator Award and Graduate Student Award. The Young Investigator Award aims to recognise a researcher under the age of 40 at the time of the conference with the most significant and timely body of research. The Graduate Student Award is for a graduate student at the time of the conference showing the most promise as demonstrated by results presented at BICET 2016,” the website said.
