A MAN claimed trial yesterday over a charge of outraging the modesty of a 31-year-old woman two years ago.

The court document filed by prosecuting officer Siti Nurjauinah Hj Kula stated that the defendant Dr Joseph Cheok Van Seng is accused of using criminal force by squeezing the woman’s left buttock at the BEDB office in Ong Sum Ping on February 5, 2014.

The penalty carries an imprisonment term of five years and an unspecified number of whippings.

The 55-year-old Dr Cheok is represented by defence counsel Cristina Lim for the case.

During the proceedings before magistrate Ak Shahyzul Khairuddien Pg Hj Abd Rahman yesterday, the court released Dr Cheok on a $5,000 court bail or the same amount in one local surety pending another mention of the case on May 7 before an assigned magistrate to set trial date.
