Accident in Limbamg claims lives of a local and Malaysian

TWO senior citizens were reported to have been killed in a car accident in Limbang yesterday afternoon.
The fatal accident occurred along KM 38 in Jalan Tedungan Limbang at around 1.15pm.
According to the Head of Limbang Traffic Unit, ASP Khairul Ridzuan Ahmad said that the fatal accident which involved a Kia Sportage, believed to have come from the direction of Brunei to Limbang town side skidded on the wet road and swerved into the right lane.
“The car then collided with a Toyota Echo, driven by Awang Ujan Osman,a 53 -year-old Malaysian, which was approaching from Limbang town heading to Brunei,” he told The Brunei Times.
The police officer said that Awang Ujan Osman and his passenger Hj Pungut Tambah, a 59-year-old Bruneian, died at the scene while the driver of the Sportage, Morsidi Hj Masri, 38, also Bruneian, was injured and sent back to Brunei by member of the public. Reports from the Limbang Central Police Station stated that it was raining drizzly when the accident happened.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Limbang are still investigating and will conduct post-mortem on the victims today at the Limbang Hospital’s mortuary.
Both Bruneian cars were brought to Limbang Police Headquarters yesterday. ASP Khairul Ridzuan also took the opportunity to remind drivers that care and patience should always be exercised when on the roads, especially during the rainy season.
“Currently, we have General Election in Limbang (so) the number of cars on the road might increase. People need to be extra vigilant when they are on the road,” he said.
He also stated that road users should always remember not to exceed the set speed limit of the road.
