Mass prayers kick off Family Day

CELEBRATIONS for the Fifth National Family Day kicked off yesterday evening with mass prayers held simultaneously in all districts.

More than 200 congregants – comprising ministers, deputy ministers, government officials, grassroots leaders and residents – participated in the opening ceremony.

The main event was held in Sengkurong at the Sultan Sharif Ali Mosque, attended by Minister of Home Affairs (MoHA) Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong.

Present at the Mohammad Jamalul Alam Mosque in Belait was Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Hj Awg Halbi Hj Mohd Yusof.

Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Tutong saw the attendance of Religious Affairs Minister Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Awang Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Awang Othman.

In Temburong, the event was held at the Utama Mohd Salleh Mosque. In attendance was Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Dato Paduka Hj Abd Mokti Hj Daud.

Mass Maghrib, Isya’ and Hajat prayers, as well as the recital of Surah Yassin and special prayers were held for the event last night.

The annual event is jointly organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

It aims to promote a model picture of a family institution that can lead the society towards a peaceful and harmonious lifestyle.

The Family Day was incepted in 2012 to allow family members in Brunei to spend time together and appreciate the importance of interacting and socialising with family members over various activities.

The National Family Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of May.

This year’s celebration is themed ‘Family with a Vision’.
