Kg Sg Bunga shop rakes in $27,800
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Kg Sg Bunga Village Consultative Council’s shop at the Airport Mall has raked in $27,800 in village product sales since its opening last year.
The village council’s secretary, Zaini Hj Salleh, said that the shop was opened in June as part of the village consultative council’s efforts to create a marketing hub exclusively for its village products.
Since March this year, Zaini said, the shop has added 23 new products from various villages, including Kg Lambak, Kg Mentiri, Kg Sg Matan and Kg Kapok.
The sales figures were presented to the Brunei-Muara District Office.
Zaini said that the village council is expecting participation from more villages soon.
“Our plan is to promote and sell products of other village consultative councils which fall under Zone II, the same zone which Kg Sg Bunga Village Consultative Council is in,” he said in an interview with The Brunei Times.
Zaini expressed hope that the introduction of the new products and active promotion will futher boost the shop’s customer base.
The shop, which is located at the first floor of the mall, is currently manned by a full-time and part-time staff, both residents of Kg Sg Bunga.
Zaini said that the council has also upgraded the shop’s interior, with the assistance from the Brunei-Muara District Office, to improve the store’s branding.
“Alhamdulillah, the shop continues to attract public attention,” Zaini said, adding that the council continues to use social media to promote its products.
He said that customers’ feedback has been positive and helped refute public perception that village products are seasonal. “We just need a platform to effectively market our products,” he added.
In addition, Zaini said, the council will bring tourists staying at Kg Sg Bunga to the shop.
With Ramadhan and Hari Raya Aidil Fitri fast approaching, Zaini said the shop plans to offer discounts to customers, particularly for its dried seafood crackers and biscuits which are popular food items served during the festive season.
The shop opens 10am to 9pm daily.
