THE Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) library in the capital will undergo renovation works sometime this year, said its acting chief librarian.

Dk Hjh Masdiana Pg Hj Damit said the library is to set to get an interior facelift with new furniture, as well as additions to its existing collections.

According to DBP Officer Hilme Md Yahya, the current building is already over 50 years old, which meant it was due for an upgrade.

Hilme said the library received at least 300 visitors per month, adding that it was busiest during exams season.

Both were speaking to The Brunei Times on the sidelines of a World Book Day celebration held at the DBP library yesterday.

The one-day event saw primary and secondary school students visiting the library and participating in activities that were organised to encourage a reading culture.

The celebration also included a book sale with participating vendors including Pustaka Remaja and Best Eastern.

In February, the DBP hosted the Brunei Book Fair and Empowering Reading Culture Carnival 2016.

World Book Day is observed every April 23.
