A LOCAL man was remanded yesterday pending sentencing after he admitted to charges of molesting his daughter.

During the proceedings yesterday before Intermediate Court judge Pg Hjh Hanani Pg Hj Metussain, the 41-year-old defendant said that he was not feeling himself as someone had whispered to him and asked him to commit the offences.

“I was out of my conscious self,” said the defendant.

In his mitigation, the defendant further told the court that he was remorseful and promised that he will not re-offend.

The judge scheduled the sentencing to be held on April 27 and further indicated to the defendant that the offence carries a penalty of minimum sentence of three years in jail.

“Basically, you have to prepare yourself for this eventuality,” said Pg Hjh Hanani.

The court document stated that the 13-year old victim, Miss X, shares a room with her parents and siblings. The mother sleeps on the bed with one of the sibling, while the victim and another sibling sleeps on a mattress on the floor together with the defendant, the father.

It went on to state that it was through this sleeping arrangement during the night that the defendant had groped his daughter on two separate occasion in April this year and once in 2014 when the defendant touched her private parts.

On April 4, after feeling upset over the incident, Miss X decided to report the matter to one of the teachers at her school. On April 6, the teacher brought Miss X to the Women and Children Abuse Investigation Unit to file a report against the father.

The defendant was subsequently arrested on the same day and further investigation led to the discovery two of the other offences.
