THREE boys were put on remand yesterday pending their sentencing on Monday for theft-related offences in Seria.

Muhammad Aiman Morni, 18, Muhammad Sahrul Hardi Muhammad Mustafa, 19 and Hairolazmie, 19, admitted to entering a house in the Brunei Shell Petroleum Housing in Panaga, Seria on the evening of April 14 this year and stealing several mobile phones, a tablet, laptops, cameras and a car key while the owner was sleeping.

They further admitted to using the car key and stealing the Toyota Fortuner that was parked outside the house.

Despite changing the license plate, Muhammad Aiman was arrested by police when they found him driving a car matching the description of the complainant’s missing car.

During the investigation, Muhammad Aiman admitted that he intended to sell the items to purchase drugs. Meanwhile, most of the stolen items have been recovered by the police except for one mobile phone.

Muhammad Aiman further admitted to another theft offence on April 7 this year when he entered a house in the BSP Housing in Panaga and stole a CD player, a game console and a jewellery set.

In their mitigation, the teenagers sought a lenient sentence and promised not to re-offend. They also apologised for their actions.

All three defendants, each of whom has no previous convictions, could be facing three to seven years in prison and an unspecified amount in fines.

Presiding Senior Magistrate Lailatul Zubaidah Hj Mohd Hussain ordered for the defendants to be further remanded at the Seria Police Station pending sentencing on April 18.
