A LOCAL man claimed trial yesterday at the Magistrates’ Court after pleading not guilty to beating his wife and causing bleeding and injuries to her head.

Mohd Faizal Awg Buroh, 27, denied charges of assaulting his 30-year-old wife during midday on March 22, 2016 while they were in a car parked in the vicinity of the Airport Mall in Berakas.

During yesterday’s proceedings before the presiding magistrate, Azrimah Hj Abd Rahman, the prosecution said they would be presenting seven witnesses while the defendant told the court he would not present any.

The defendant’s bail has been extended until this April 25 when he is due to re-appear in court to set trial dates.

Another local man was charged at the Magistrates’ Court yesterday for strangling his wife.

Mohd Yusof Hj Latif, 29, allegedly strangled his 29-year-old wife while they were both at the Sungai Bunga car park on April 8, 2016.

No plea was taken and Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati Hj Abd Hamid adjourned the case until this Thursday as the victim’s medical report is not ready.

The defendant was released on bail set at $3,000 or one local surety.
