TWENTY-FIVE contestants have been selected to move forward to the finals of the National Musabaqah Al-Quran Memorisation and Interpretation Competition.

The announcement was made yesterday at Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB).

A total of 206 people had initially signed up for the competition, but only five contestants from each of the five categories were selected.

Categories ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ and ‘E’ had different criteria to fulfil such as different juzuk and verses of the Quran to memorise and interpret.

The chairperson of the panel of judges, Mohd Sujairi Hj Dollah, made the announcement while also noting that the judges were satisfied with the performance quality of the competition’s finalists.

“As a whole, the quality of reading and memorisation of the contestants is at a very good level and has improved compared to the preliminary stage,” he said.

The panel was made up of 18 judges who are experts in the Quran in various fields.

“However, the panel would like to remind and advise contestants to continue learning and internalising their recitations and memorisations so it may stay at a consistent level of excellence so they may be able to face future challenges in the upcoming musabaqah,” he added.

Present as the guest of honour at the announcement ceremony was Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs Roselan Hj Taja’ah who presented tokens of appreciation to the finalists and those who competed in the semi-finals.

The semi-finals took place at ITQSHHB over three days where a total of 57 contestants participated, hoping to making it to the national finals.

The acting director of the MABIMS Al-Quran Learning and Dissemination Centre, Pg Haslin Pg Hj Ali, said the finals are set to take place in June.
