Tutong offers wedding services in tourism package
THE community-based Tutong Destinasi tourism programme has added a new package that provides wedding services to create more job opportunities and promote the district’s heritage.
The new wedding package named Walimatul Urus covers services such as photography, catering and ethnic performances.
Muhammad Amir Hj Umarali, chief executive officer of Tutong District Office’s Tourism Promotion Body, said the wedding service was created to provide a platform that gathers local communities and provide them with better business networks and employment opportunities.
“The idea is event management, providing full package for weddings such as catering services, wedding customs, and I think for the first time in Brunei, ethnic performances based on the concept selected by the clients,” said Muhammad Amir.
In an interview, he said the wedding service incorporates traditional elements such as using products from Tutong’s One Village, One Product as souvenirs, using wedding decorations of a selected ethnic group as well as having cultural performances.
“Our objective and main goal is to promote a new product that will benefit Tutong in terms of the tourism industry. Through weddings, we can promote and preserve the heritage of Tutong ethnic (groups) and raise public awareness (on the cultures),” he added.
According to Muhammad Amir, Walimatul Urus is currently working with two photography companies, one make-up artist, and five catering services.
He said discussions will be held with several other companies that have expressed their interest in the Walimatul Urus package,
“Walimatul Urus is still new and we will try to invite and encourage more service providers to join. Right now we need to first let them learn and understand this new product,” said Muhammad Amir.
The Tutong Destinasi programme was launched in 2015 with more than 30 attractions and over 50 products under its One Village, One Product initiative.
