TWENTY selected Primary Special Education Needs Assistant (SENA) teachers from all four districts of the sultanate recently attended a series of refresher workshops to enhance their professional competency.

Organised by the Ministry of Education’s Special Education Unit, the workshops provided a hands-on approach on teaching and learning as well as managing students’ Remedial Education Plan (REP).

In a statement, the unit said the training also aimed to impart knowledge and skills on strategies to support students with the REP, particularly on basic skills in reading, writing, spelling and arithmetic.

Topics that were covered throughout the sessions included teaching and learning methods in literacy and numeracy as well as standardised screening tests.

The five training sessions were held from February 11 to March 10.

Certificates of appreciation were presented by the Acting Head of the Special Education Unit, Pg Sarimah Pg Hj Ahmad, at the conclusion of the workshops.
