A PRELIMINARY inquiry into last year’s Kg Pandan murder case is underway with prosecution in the process of presenting multiple documents and exhibits yesterday.

Muhammad Zulkifli Abdul Jalil, 27, is facing a charge of gang robbery and murder.

The defendant is accused of killing 43-year-old Ispawi Idris on May 20, 2015, at a house in Pandan 7 National Housing Scheme. The victim’s body was discovered three days later inside a parked car.

The defendant, who is unrepresented, has yet to enter a plea.

The preliminary inquiry is held to determine whether there is enough evidence to justify sending a case to trial.

The prosecution led by deputy public prosecutor Norhayati Omar will be presenting over 100 documents and between 20 and 30 exhibits from the investigation.

The hearing will held before the presiding magistrate Hjh Ervy Sufitriana Hj Abd Rahman.

The defendant was initially charged with co-accused, Hakimi Rizal Abdullah @ Eyan Anak Beritin. But Hakimi was found dead in police lock-up on June 2 due to “unnatural causes”.

All capital cases and serious crimes are heard before the justices of the High Court.

The preliminary inquiry will resume on Monday, April 4.
