TELEKOM Brunei Berhad (TelBru) is aiming for 40,000 homes and businesses in the sultanate to be connected with high speed broadband (HSBB) by the end of this year.

Head of Customer Care and Corporate Communication Hj Ideris Hj Ali said this on the sidelines of TelBru’s 10th anniversary thanksgiving ceremony yesterday at the Kg Mentiri Mosque.

The event was to commemorate the telco company’s decade of corporatisation since 2006.

Speaking to The Brunei Times, Hj Ideris said that currently, there are more than 35,000 homes and businesses that have been connected with HSBB, adding that they aim for another 20,000 residential premises next year.

“This is the biggest project we have done so far with the national Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) because TelBru is now no longer about connectivity through landlines (but) also about providing internet and ICT services to the nation,” he said.

Hj Ideris said that the telco company is currently looking into providing Internet services in the interior areas of the Belait district, under the rural One Government Network (OGN).

The OGN is a government initiative which aims to provide Internet services for government agencies and the community in rural areas.

Asked regarding the future of TelBru, Hj Ideris said that the coming years will be very challenging as customer demands will keep on rising.

“We have to make sure that the expectations of the customers are met (and) we have to be steadfast to ensure that we can provide our customers with the best experience,” he said.

“Currently we are renovating a number of our TelBru branches so hopefully in the coming months customers will be able to see that our branches will experience a form of rebranding (and) a new layout,” added the 54-year-old.

The thanksgiving ceremony started with the recital of Surah Yasin, followed by tahlil and doa kesyukuran, led by the head imam of the Kg Mentiri Mosque, Hj Makshud Hj Malik.

Present as the guest of honour at the religious ceremony was Deputy Minister of Finance Dato Paduka Hj Hisham Hj Mohd Hanifah as the chairman of TelBru.

The event also saw the guest of honour presenting donations to the head imam.
