76th Pakistan Day reception in Gadong

TERRORISM remains a challenge to the nation of Pakistan, which celebrated its 76th Pakistan Day yesterday.

“For more than 35 years our region is witnessing one of the deadliest campaigns against terrorism, eradication of which even today is one of the main occupations of the Pakistan Armed Forces,” said High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Brunei Darussalam.

Brigadier (Rtd) Muhammad Zareef Malik during the reception hosted by the Pakistan High Commission said “This campaign has been taken up in real earnest by the present government of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and it has been able to break the back of these evil forces and have brought normalcy back to the country,” he said.

Pakistan, to date, has lost 57,000 people in which 6,500 of them were men in uniform, he added.

Present as guest of honour at the reception was Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Hj Ali Hj Apong who was accompanied by his spouse.

In commemorating the occasion of Pakistan Day, Pakistan’s leaders also sent their messages to the citizens of Pakistan.

In his message, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain also touched on the of terrorism in which he stressed that promoting tolerance and patience are vital in combating existing challenges of extremism and terrorism.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif reiterated similar sentiments in his message as he voiced the determination in fighting against ‘the menace of terrorism and extremism’ in keeping Pakistan as a pluralistic society with equality and justice for every Pakistani citizen.

“On this occasion (Pakistan Day) we reiterate our resolve to ensure freedom, equality and social justice for every citizen of Pakistan as enshrined in the teachings of Islam,” he said in his message.

Both messages from the Pakistan’s leaders ended with their hopes to serve the country and bringing Pakistan to glory by following footsteps of their former great leaders as well as the blessings and guidance from Allah SWT.
