A ROYAL Brunei (RB) Airlines Boeing 787 flight to London was forced to return to Brunei after a mid-air engine failure last Friday, the flag carrier said in a statement.

The national carrier said the Boeing 787 Flight BI097 experienced an in-flight shutdown on one of its engines about one hour after take-off.

This is the second time in nearly five months that an RB Airlines Dreamliner flight ran into engine problems.

Last October, an RB Dreamliner flight headed to Brunei returned to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila due to abnormal engine readings.

RB Airlines in its statement said all 213 passengers and 12 crew members were safe after the plane landed at 10:11pm local time.

The flag carrier said some flights were cancelled and rescheduled as a result of the aircraft engine failure.
