The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) yesterday concluded an Expert Witness Course for 11 analysts from the Department of Scientific Services (DSS).Delivering the one-day course was Deputy Public Prosecutor Aldila Hj Mohd Salleh, the head of the Criminal Justice Division, who underscored the importance of expert witnesses like the DSS analysts in the criminal justice system and the significant role they play in providing credible expert evidence in modern-day trials in order to achieve justice.

During the course, ‘expert witness’ participants being qualified professionals academically as well as by training and experience were reminded of the qualities they must possess: honesty, integrity, the ability to provide thorough technical reasoning and a soundly-based opinion.

Topics covered during the course, which was held in the Law and Courts Building, included courtroom etiquette to be observed by expert witnesses as well as an analysis of High Court judgments in the past that have dealt with expert evidential issues.The Brunei Times
