THE main water pipeline for Meragang residents is set to be completed by the end of this year to improve water supply in the area, the minister of development said.

During the 12th Legislative Council (LegCo) session yesterday, Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Hj Bahrin Abdullah said plans are currently in place to improve water supply in Kg Meragang, as the ministry is installing a new water pipeline.

The minister was responding to LegCo member YB Hj Gapor @ Hj Md Daud Karim’s query on the ministry’s plans to improve water supply, particularly Kg Meragang.

Last month, it was reported that most residents in Meragang endured going nearly eight days without running water.

YB Dato Hj Bahrin said in regards to the low water pressure, the Meragang housing area is considered a terminal for the country’s water pipelines and any water supply disruptions.

He said the area is the most affected as it is located at the edge of the country. “Recently, we observed that this area has been affected by water disruption for over one week, therefore the Water Department has worked hard in providing (portable) water tanks and water delivery services which includes water supply in plastic bags,” he said.

“If the main water pipeline project is completed, this water problem will be reduced,” he added.
