Ministry to boost safety along coastal areas in Tutong
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Ministry of Development (MoD) is looking into further improving the Tutong district to ensure the safety and welfare of its residents.
Among the initiatives currently being implemented is the coastal protection project which came about following the recent coastal erosion that occured in Kg Danau.
Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Hj Bahrin Abdullah said the long-term project, considered to be a very serious matter, has yet to reach the housing area.
According to a previous report by The Brunei Times published on February 12, the Tutong District Office, along with other government agencies helped installed geobags along the coastal areas at Kg Danau to prevent further erosion at the coastlines.
Another issue also raised during the meeting by Legislative Council (LegCo) member YB Orang Kaya Jaya Putera Dato Paduka Hj Muhammad Taha Abd Rauf was for the Tutong main road to be upgraded as it is one of the oldest road connecting Tutong and the Brunei-Muara district.
YB Dato Hj Bahrin responded that the ministry will be considering the proposal, along with other priorities. Meanwhile, YB Dato Paduka Hj Abdullah Hj Mohd Jaafar raised concerns over the annual floods in Tutong to which the minister responded by saying that a $4 million budget has been allocated for flood management and mitigation works.
