A FORMER supervisor for G4S Secure Solutions Sdn Bhd was sentenced to serve three years and six months in jail yesterday following his conviction over a misappropriating monies belonging to Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD).

The presiding Intermediate Court judge Hj Abdullah Soefri POKSM DSP Hj Abidin further ordered the defendant, Abd Rahman Hj Abd Hamid, to pay compensation to BIDB in the amount of $32,500 or serve an additional three months in jail if he fails to pay within 16 weeks.

During the proceedings yesterday, the court denied Abd Rahman’s application to be released on bail to allow him to make arrangements for his children’s schooling.

In delivering the verdict yesterday, the Intermediate court judge said that the defendant had used his position to influence three other to commit the offence.

He went on to say that it was evident from the trial that the defendant had planned, lead and controlled the men.

The court further said that the defendant had abused his position of trust within the company.

Abd Rahman was ordered to serve his sentence with effect from March 7, the day when he was convicted.
