UBD Library receives 19 new books

THE Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Library yesterday received a boost to its resource collection following the handover of 19 new books by the Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Centre for Islamic Studies (SOASCIS).

The new titles, which cover a wide range of topics in the field of Islamic studies, consisted of 10 English books, eight Arabic books and one Malay book.

The books were donated by the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) and Distinguished Professor at UBD and Director of SOASCIS Professor Datuk Dr Osman Bakar.

Amongst the donated titles were a six-volume translation of ‘The Mathnawi of Jalaludin Rumi’ rendered by International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) Professor Syed Mohd Ajmal Abdul Razak al-Aidrus which includes an introduction by Distinguished Professor Datuk Dr Osman.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, UBD Chief Librarian Dr Hj Awg Suhaimi Hj Abdul Karim said the donated books were a welcome addition to the library’s collection, adding that the material would be useful to the university’s students.

He said it was hoped that more contributions would be made to the collection in the future.

Also present yesterday were Brunei History Society (PESEBAR) representative and UBD Faculty of Social Sciences (FASS) member Associate Professor Dr Awg Hj Asbol Hj Mail and UBD Academy of Brunei Studies (APB) members Associate Professor Ampuan Dr Hj Ibrahim Ampuan Hj Tengah and Dr Hj Tassim Hj Abu Bakar.

The UBD Library collection currently consists of over 600,000 books.The Brunei Times
