‘Brunei can weather this crisis’
STRONG leadership in the government will see Brunei out of the prevailing economic crisis, affirms a Legislative Council member in yesterday’s meeting.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin said it is not the first time Brunei has faced the problem concerning the decline in oil prices.
“This is not a new issue. In 1997 to 1998, the oil prices were about US$12 per barrel,” he said, noting that the current prices were currently around US$30 per barrel, down from US$100 more than a year ago.
“Under the guidance and leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, we have been able to get through that problem that we had faced,” he said.
YB Pehin Dato Goh said the current global crisis that is affecting the nation can also be overcome under His Majesty’s leadership, giving credence to the nation’s faith and the national philosophy of Melayu Islam Beraja (MIB).
“This nation will be peaceful and prosperous. We only need to remain in solidarity, loyal to the monarchy and continue to uphold the vision of a Negara Zikir which protects all citizens, Muslim and non-Muslims alike,” he said.
