JPKE conducts price control check

THE Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE) through its Price Control Division yesterday conducted a random spot check on price control items at a number of suppliers in the Lambak Kanan Industrial Area.

According to a statement released yesterday, the spot check aimed to ensure that suppliers are selling the control items to retailers at a reasonable price and not above the maximum price set by the department.

The spot check was also to make sure that suppliers and retailers in the sultanate are abiding by Chapter 142 of the Price Control Act.

The JPKE reminded the public that the department will take action against suppliers or retailers who are found not in compliance with the price control items.

These actions include issuing a warning notice, issuing compound fines of not more than $1,000 and imposing a maximum fine of $5,000 and two years imprisonment or a fine of not more than $20,000 and five years in prison.

The spot check was led by Pg Hjh Rosnah Pg Hj Damit, price controller of the JPKE. Also present during the inspection was the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, Dr Hjh May Fa’ezah Hj Ahmad Ariffin.

The JPKE said to facilitate the investigation, the public is required sign all complaint forms and provide information or evidence such as the shop name, type of goods, date of purchase and receipt.
