A BRUNEIAN man was charged at the Magistrates’ Court yesterday for threatening to assault a police officer.

The defendant, 26-year-old Mohd Abd Muiz A Roslan, had threatened to cause injury and chased after the police inspector armed with two kitchen knives out of his house while the police inspector was on duty.

The police inspector had visited the defendant at his house located in Kg Perpindahan Rimba on the night of February 28, 2016, to question him in relation to a separate case in which he is a suspect.

Police officers then returned to the house following the earlier altercation and successfully arrested the defendant at 4am.

Presiding Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal PDJLD DSP Hj Kefli released him on bail at $5,000 or one local surety and ordered for the defendant to be remanded at the central police station in the capital until a bailor can be found.

The penalty for the offence of threatening to cause injury to a public servant under section 189 of the Penal Code, Chapter 22, may extend up to five years’ imprisonment with a fine.
