A 29-YEAR-OLD Bruneian was killed, and another seriously injured in an accident along Jalan Betong-Sri Aman on the way to Kuching, Sarawak, last Saturday.

Malaysian Traffic Police in Sri Aman confirmed the accident yesterday was between Bruneian registered Honda Integra and a Malaysian Proton Saga on Saturday at 5.45pm.

Fire fighters, who were the first to reach the site of the accident, found the 29-year-old male, a passenger in the Honda, dead.

The driver, also a 44-year-old Bruneian male, suffered multiple injuries including broken bones, was brought to Sri Aman Hospital and is now recuperating, according to the Brunei Consul in Kuching. The Malaysian driver of the Proton also suffered injuries and is currently recovering.

The inspector who recorded the case, Mahathir Hj Samah said that the Honda was leaving Betong when it “suddenly skidded and spun onto the middle of the road”, where it was hit by an oncoming Proton from the opposite lane.

The two Bruneians were on a road trip to Kuching to attend a motor road show, according to the Vice-Consul of Brunei to Kuching Hj Ahmad Hj Mohd Zain.

The case is still under investigation by the Malaysian Traffic Police.
