FOUR foreign nationals have been arrested for working in a profession they were not licensed to work in.

According to a statement released by the Labour Department’s Labour Enforcement Division yesterday, the four workers were caught during the division’s Operasi Gempur 21/2016 at a house in Kg Sungai Akar on February 27.

The statement said the workers were guilty of working in a position that they were not meant to hold, in accordance with their Employment of Foreign Workers License.

During the operation, a total of 10 officers from the division were dispatched to carry out the inspection which began at 9am.

The operation exposed four foreign nationals who worked as cendol makers. One of the workers was supposed to work as a domestic worker, while two other were suppose to work as a driver and a construction worker.

Meanwhile, another foreign worker was also found working with a visitor’s pass.

Based on the offence, the Labour Department said it will impose a quota reduction or cancellation on the employer’s Foreign Worker Employment License while the workers’ working permit will be terminated and they be returned to their original country.

The department reminded the public and all employers that anyone found guilty of abusing the Employment of Foreign Workers Licenses can be punished under Chapter 112 (1) of the Employment Order 2009.

Action can be taken under Chapter 112 (3) of the same order with a fine of not less than $6,000 and not more than $10,000, or imprisonment of not less than six months and not more than three years or both.
