STUDENTS at International School Brunei (ISB) held a special school assembly yesterday to celebrate Brunei’s 32nd National Day.

More than 200 pupils participated in the primary and secondary school events, held at the ISB campus in Sungai Hanching, putting on performances such as traditional Bruneian songs and dances, as well as a skit.

His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel acted as emcee during the primary school assembly, introducing the various acts as they made their way to the stage. Also attending the event as an ISB student was his younger sister, HRH Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah.

Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah also graced the assembly to cheer on her son, Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim, as did HRH Princess Hjh Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, who was present to support her son, YAM Pengiran Anak ‘Abdul Haseeb.

The 40-minute long assembly kicked off with a rendition of the national anthem, Allah Peliharakan Sultan, before Year Three students performed a dance called Seantero Dunia.

Pupils from Year Four then performed a dance choreographed to the song, Generasi Berwawasan, the official theme song of Brunei’s National Day celebrations. Students then staged a short production of a local folk play titled Pulau Labi Labi, which featured YTM Pengiran Muda ‘Abdul Muntaqim.

The schoolchildren capped off the event with performances of traditional dances from Brunei’s various ethnic groups.

“As an International School, ISB places a strong emphasis on tolerance and acceptance of all cultures, especially those of our host country, Brunei,” said Primary Principal Darren Sibley.

He added that it was the first National Day celebration ISB held at its new multi-million dollar campus.
